Thessaloniki Food Festival is an initiative of the Municipality of Thessaloniki that aims to highlight local cuisine and promote the city as a culinary destination. There was a contest for the logo and our proposal was selected.
We used pen and ink to make a drawing of a mermaid with a chef's hat. According to ancient tales, the mermaid was the sister of Alexander the Great and the city of Thessaloniki was named after her.
We hand traced an existing font to create the typography of the logo, in order to give a personal and human touch to it.
Once the logo was finished, we used silkscreening to print the logo in various media (table linen, canvas, cardboard) and created various versions of the logo to be used in future applications.
In 2016 the experimental urban vineyard of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, in collaboration with Ktima Gerovassiliou, bottled a wine that was named the Mermaid and we were asked to design the labels.
